Despite increase in VAT, home sales increase in July

Home sales to pick up strength again in July. If last week we found out that real estate transfers were up 25% in the second quarter, after the new VAT rate, effective from July 1, data released today indicate that the sector not only maintains its recovery for the seventh consecutive month, but the number of transactions has risen from 7% in June to 8%.

Housing sales in July surged 16% over the same month of 2009, more than double the rate of 7% in June. 48.5% of homes passed by purchase in July were used and 51.5% new. The number of new housing operations increased by 16.0% and increases used by 16.8% over July 2009.
