The construction of the Thyssen Museum in Malaga enters its final phase: the installation of the electrical system, ventilation and security systems, as the division of the exhibition halls has been made.
According to estimations from the companies in charge with the project (OHL, Hermanos Campano, Contrat), the museum will be finished by mid-December. However, the opening for the general public is set for March 2011. This will not include the Roman exhibition with ruins found while building the museum.
There are still some works of major importance, such as raising the building situated at 6-8 Calle de la Compañia. This action has been left to the end because the site was used to facilitate the entry of building materials. Once the main museum building has been finished, the second building is to be built. It will serve as a gift shop and a exhibition hall for temporary exhibitions. In fact, the ground floor has already been built.
The project of the Thyssen Museum – Malaga will be realized with a part of the Baroness’ Thyssen-Bornemisza unique collection of Spanish paintings of the 19th and 20th century and local artists from the same period.
