5 ways to green your home

A very traditional home can become energy- and resource-efficient. Some of the most smartest green ideas are low-tech and are inspired by the wat people lived in the past.

1. Make sure that your house gets as much direct sunlight as possible. Moreover, the other part of the house will provide you lots of shade. No need for AC in those rooms!

2. If you choose to remodel, consider expanding up rather than out. That’s an easy way to control your home’s carbon footprint.

3. Size matters. Don’t build extremely large houses. They are harder to heat up in the cold winters. If you do have a large home, it’s useful to have more rooms than one giant space, like a living-room, dining room and kitchen put together.

4. A solar water-heating system can reduce the fossil fuel you’ll need for showering and washing clothes. Before installing one, determine whether you have a sunny enough location to recoup the up-front costs.

5. Make sure your insulation is done well. It saves you up to 20% in heating bills.

That being sad, green is the new trend in home improvements and real estate. Make sure you save up energy!
