Support for homeownership will be reduced over the next two years

The Spanish ministry of housing has announced that the government will abolish the support for the acquisition of protected houses in order to boost house renting. Also, the rehabilitation of these houses will be postponed until 2012. These measures will allow a reduction of the public deficit. Beatriz Corredor, the ministry, stated that “if we have to spend less, we’ll have to prioritize our expenses”.

Corredor today met with the directors of the branch of the Autonomous Communities within the framework of the Sectoral Conference on Housing. Autonomic representatives do not see the cuts, which are mostly carried out in stages until 2012, with good eyes and have called for a bilateral study. The real estate agencies are not thrilled about this news as well.
