Let’s paint a picture! You have bought a fabulous house near the beach, you feel the breeze in your wind, but you want to play a quiet game of golf. Golf courses in these part of Spain are not hard to find, but which are the best? Let’s check them out, in a totally random order.

1. Alcaidesa Links Golf Course – La Linea (close to Gibraltar)

How to find: close to San Roque on the A7 coast highway, dirrection to La Linea/Gibraltar
It has two courses: Alcaidesa Links and Alcaidesa Heathlands.  Both courses have outstanding views of the sea and mountains  and the Links course has 4 beachside holes.

2. Almenara Golf Course- Sotogrande

How to find: Situated next to Valderrama and in the Sotogrande development.

Almenara has 27 holes by the designer of San Roque’s first course, Dave Thomas. There are beautiful views to the Almenara hills and the course is surrounded by pine and cork trees. The course has been designed to suit all abilities from the high handicapper, to the golf professional.

3. Anoreta Golf Course- Rincon de la Victoria

How to find: East of Malaga, km 258 on the N340 national road. The course has generous fairways and fast rolling greens – some of which are well protected by bunkers and water (which comes into play on 11 of the holes including the long 528m 3rd). The practice facilities are good and include a driving range.

4. Estepona golf Course.

How to find: Ctra. de Cadiz, Km 150 Estepona (Malaga)

PAR: 72 LENGTH: 5610 metres. Par 5 is the longest the longest hole in Spain, called the Ski run, 568 metres in length ! It is an excellent course to play enjoyed by golfers at all levels.

5. Finca Cortesin.

How to find: Casares, Malaga.

Home of the Volvo World Match Play Championship, Finca Cortesin is considered to be one of the best courses in Spain. At 6800 meters (from the back tees) it is certainly one of the longest courses in Europe and it has more than a 100 bunkers which provides a real challenge to both high and low handicap players.

6. Marbella Country and Golf Club

Marbella Golf has an overall playing length of 6000 meters and a par rating of 72. Every hole is unique in design and character while affording views of the Mediterranean Sea.

7. Valderrama Golf Course.

Host for many years to the Volvo Masters and of course the Ryder Cup this is one of the finest golf courses in Europe. The fairways are fairly flat and tree-lined, with elevated greens well protected by bunkers – this course is very special, early booking is recommended, although expensive it is also extremely popular.

We presented only seven, but there are more than 70 golf courses on the Costa del Sol.
